Test Your HVAC Knowledge

Your HVAC can be an appliance that makes your life sweet like candy, or it can be a system that plays some nasty tricks on you should you not care for it properly!

There is a lot of spooky information about your HVAC system floating around out there, so we’re here to take off the mask and tell you what is true and what is false about your heating and cooling system.

True or False: HVAC systems will last a lifetime.

As much as we wish this were true, it is false. Your HVAC system will likely only last between 15-25 years depending on how well it is maintained and if it is properly used. A 30 year old HVAC is sure to be covered in cobwebs and spiders.

True or False: You should change your air filters every 3 months.

This could not be more true! Your air filters do a lot more than simply filter out airborne contaminants that you don’t want to be breathing in. If it is clogged, airflow is restricted and could cause other components of the system to overheat, freeze up, or stop working.

A clogged air filter will give any HVAC technician nightmares!

True or False: Closing vents and registers in unused rooms is a great way to save money.

False! While in theory this makes sense, your system is designed to heat and cool the entire home. Shutting off access will only make your unit work harder to ensure the whole house is at the same temperature.

True or False: Setting your thermostat to an extreme temperature will make the system work faster

We know when you get home, you want to be as comfortable as possible, as quickly as possible. However, setting the thermostat to an extreme temperature will not get the temperature changed more quickly.

Your best bet here is to wait it out, and snack on some Halloween candy while you wait for the desired temperature!

We hope this quiz helped you learn a bit more about your HVAC! If you have more questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to us online or give us a call at (408) 669-3496.
